hybrid scrapbooking

If you’re considering starting a home scrapbook business even a confident, outgoing kind of person (if they’re honest about it) will at some point wonder whether it’s right for them. Not to put too fine a point on it, is a scrapbooking business really your thing? Excuse the pun, but can you cut it?

I’d have to say if you’ve got the desire and determination, yes, you almost certainly can. But I don’t know you and I can’t advise you personally so let’s look at what you need for your scrapbook business to be a success.

It starts with having a good look at yourself. An honest look. Are you looking at full-time scrapbooking because it’s something you love, or from a purely commercial point of view because you’ve looked at the profitability? The correct answer should actually be a bit of both!

Getting into business because you love doing something isn’t a bad idea. That love of the subject will keep you going when sometimes, as they always do, things don’t go quite to plan. It’s not enough on it’s own though. You need a proper scrapbooking business plan to give you goals and targets. As much as the actual scrapbooking itself is the fun stuff, you need to get the dull organizational stuff in place too!

Other things you need to look at are sufficient workspace. You can start from your kitchen table but what will you do when you’re successful? Are you going to be doing traditional scrapbooking, digital scrapbooking or a combination of two – what’s called hybrid scrapbooking? How you’re going to promote yourself? The internet can be a remarkably powerful way to find customers and a blog is easy to run, but how are you going to set these things up? If you’re already an established scrapper you probably have a list of places for scrapbook supplies but can you save money by purchasing from scrapbook wholesalers?

For many, a home scrapbook business is a dream job. It can be very rewarding both personally and financially. It’s certainly achievable if you make the proper preparations.
